I figured it was time to get back to blogging, and what better way to get back into the swing of things, than with a catch up letter and some Easter and Spring decor!

This time of year is such a renewal with Mother Nature's color that surrounds us.  Here in the high desert it comes a bit later than most, so up until a few days ago, we've had the beige effect.  Except for the evergreen trees here and there, color is definitely absent.  Kind of like I have been. :))

But now since warmer days are here, and blossoms are making their appearances, I got the bug to bring out some color with my Easter and Spring decorations.
I guess the inside of this house was just as drab as the outside was, especially with all these beige walls and carpet, you couldn't tell the inside from the outside!  Geez!

For me, decorating is like a little shopping trip right inside my house.  I begin by looking into my Easter bin and other items I have stashed around or may even be using at the moment.  Of course my candlesticks are very versatile for every holiday.  Simple fix...change the color!  One of my biggest stashes is silk flowers.  I am not the best at maintaining live greenery, so silk greens and florals are scattered here and there throughout the house.  They definitely bring cheer to a dull spot.

Speaking of spots, (get ready for a rant!)  Can I tell you how tired I am of conforming to this arched inset I have?  One of these days, far into the future, I may fill this in.  I've tried placing a large picture or mirror over it, but they just seem overwhelming and I resort back to a wreath or whatever that will fit inside.  Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!!!

One thing I love to have out on display during this time of year are birds and nests.  I enjoy watching the local wildlife and having my bits of decor inside, especially this time of year, reminds me of life's renewal.  Right now we are hearing the bullfrogs at night and all the birds are singing their songs. Dove's are going crazy and nests are being built.  It's time for a new beginning!

At Easter time, bunnies and eggs are a must for my decorations!  I've got to have eggs everywhere.  I just love all the colors mixed together.  I miss the days of coloring eggs, so maybe that's why I like to have them all around the house.  Actually, I would like to put plastic eggs outside in my cement bunny and wagon planter, but with the 50 mph winds we've been having recently, they would disappear in a flash.

Maybe I could fill them with rocks?
I think I might try that!

So let me tell you about this silk forsythia wreath on my front door, which also has a small nest attached to it.  Inside the nest are 3 foam robins eggs.  Well, there has been some bird who has tried three times to take the eggs away.  I have found them all over the place!  I put them back...he/she takes them away.  I think this bird has finally given up though because the eggs have remained there now for over a week.

Silly birds!

One of my new purchases is this chalkboard sign that I bought on sale at Hobby Lobby.
(Sorry about the flash on it.)

Don't you just LOVE Hobby Lobby?

If you don't have a store near you it's very easy to shop online. (uh oh!)

TIP:  Flat items are very easy to store away.

Here's hoping you and your loved ones have a wonderful Easter!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi Diane!
Very happy to see that you are back! I really missed you! You've done some lovely decorating for Easter! Your mantel looks so pretty and festive! I think the basket looks perfect in that little space above your mantel!

I love that white bunny and the blackboard sign. I was reading a tutorial today about making a blackboard sign using a silver plated tray! Looks easy but buying one at Hobby Lobby looks even easier! LOL! We don't have one nearby. Will have to check out their website!

Love the story about your bird nest. Have you ever seen the little (thief) bird actually take the egg?

Well HAPPY SPRING Diane! Looking forward to more posts!

    1. Hi Linda! Thanks for stopping by. I'm sure you would like Hobby Lobby because they also have a fabric section with lots of fun trims. It's not as large as most fabric places, but at least there is fabric.

No, I haven't seen that pesky critter. I'm guessing it's a Blue Jay as they are the most aggressive here next to a hawk. The only other thing it could be is a small bird trying to nest in it. But whatever it was, it pecked a hole in one of the eggs! What nerve!

Happy Easter and Happy Spring to you and yours!

  2. Thanks for sharing this great post. This is so nice.
